Edublogs used to be for teachers, Learnerblogs for students. Now Edublogs is for everyone, and it has more features and updates than Learnerblogs, which is being phased out.

So our class site has now moved to

 http://56c2008.edublogs.org/.

This site will remain online and all student blog addresses remain unchanged. You can find links to our student blogs HERE!

Our February 29, 2008 ClustermapThere’s a new, easy way to put a ClustrMap onto a learnerblog, so Mrs C, our fearless leader, has put one on all of our student blogs! (She really should be doing something else in the holidays, but she just can’t help herself.)

The ClustrMaps usually take a few days to get going, but once they do, it should be very interesting for everyone to see where their visitors are coming from. Check out our student blogs by following the page menu at the top of this page, or click HERE.

GMT is currently

Current time in Victoria, Australia:

This map shows where the Earth's most recent earthquakes have happened. Even though it is inside the boundaries of a tectonic plate, Australia experiences earthquakes regularly; sometimes they cause significant damage.

Colosseum InteriorWe’ve had more messages from Cointha, our travelling class member. She’s in Rome, and sent these comments (follow the link and scroll down) as well as the email we read in class. She has visited the Colosseum, pictured here, as well as many of the other amazing sights of Italy.

In the last couple of weeks Cointha has been in Paris, Tuscany, Florence and the Cinque Terre, as well as a host of other places.  Soon she and her family will be heading to Pompeii and Sicily. Have a great time Cointha!

Our February 29, 2008 Clustermap

This blog has been open since January 1, 2008, although it’s only been in class use since the end of January when we started the new school year. Since then, we have had visitors from ten countries: Australia (of course!), USA, England, France, Netherlands, Iran, South Korea, Israel, New Zealand and Canada. That’s a pretty good spread, I think.

So, what brings these visitors? How do they find us? We know that our travelling class member Cointha has visited our site from England, France and the Netherlands. We know that some people from the USA linked to this site from last year’s blog. What about the others? How did they find us?

If you are a visitor that doesn’t know one of us personally, we’d really appreciate your posting a comment to tell us how you found us. Thanks!

Most class members now have their own personal blogs with links to these found on the “Student Blogs” page (see link above). Students will use their blogs for a variety of purposes including sharing ideas, publishing writing and asking for feedback. Each student will be able to chose their own theme for their blog - so far the most popular choice seems to be pink! Parents are welcome - encouraged, in fact - to read and comment on their student’s  - and any other grade members’ - blog.

Welcome to our classroom tonight - thank you for coming. This is our class blog. As we’ve only been at school for a couple of weeks, there’s not a lot to see yet, but keep watching this space! Feel free to browse through the pages of our blog - clicking the “home” button will bring you back to this page if you get lost. :-)

image from www.feebleminds-gifs.comNext Wednesday, February 20, the school will be open to parents and students for our annual HELLO NIGHT!

The doors will open at 6.30pm for an hour and we would like to invite all families to come to school that evening, meet their child’s teachers and have a guided tour of the classroom from their child.

The evening is informal and relaxed and a great way to get the school/family relationship off to a strong start. Hope to see you there!

Today we looked over the new blog, familiarising ourselves with new terms like post, blog and widget. We also discussed internet protocols, such as ensuring we never give away personal information and making sure our work is of a high standard to share with the world.

Some students also learned to post comments. We love comments! In fact, I want to encourage comments so much that I will give 1000 house points to the first ten students (from 5/6C) to post a comment to our blog before Wednesday. To qualify, comments must be correctly spelled and punctuated and say something intelligent (sharing an idea or commenting thoughtfully on a post - no yells AAAARRRGGGHHHH!)

When we have all of our permission forms back, students will be able to write their own posts and, soon, post on their own blogs! Stay tuned…
